"You don't know what you don't know"

Upgrade your "equipment"

I like to envision my brain as my tool box. The more I learn, the more tools I have in my tool box. I feel more confident as I approach each bridal fitting knowing that I have learned many different approaches to altering a gown. I certainly have my favorite tools. But there is such a variety of designs, and infinite body shapes, that I need all the knowledge I can put into my brain to make the best fitting decisions. Training is so vital to any career.

You don't know what you don't know

I hear feedback from my students on the academy training. Most are surprised at how much they learned. They consider themselves experienced seamsters, yet bridal alterations are unique. And fitting issues can be funky.

One student had been trained in a bridal shop by an experienced seamstress who had worked in the store for years. My student said she had not learned any of this academy knowledge from her store trainer, and wondered if her old trainer couldn't also benefit from taking my courses.

ASDP training

Every year I go to ASDP conference. I go with an attitude of humility and a teachable spirit. The whole beauty of the experience is learning so so very much! I definitely don't know what I don't know. The conference is expensive, but the knowledge I gain is huge. I really learn so much. We can all use more training.

Invest in yourself

You are the most vital part of your business. Your knowledge or lack of knowledge can make or break your career. I urge you to consider investing in yourself with training. We all need sewing skills, customer relations skills, and business management skills.

Speaking of customer relations skills, my "Bridezilla" symposium is a huge free training extravaganza! It's all online. If you haven't signed up yet, be sure to do it right now. Being prepared for whatever personality comes through your door is so important.
